You know how it feels when that hunger for TexMex hits you! I traveled out to Midwest City in Oklahoma to try Chelino's on Sooner Road to get my fix.
It is good eating under $15 bucks.
I ordered a beef and chicken combo plate. It came out sizzling! The meat was great. I have a problem with restaurants buying marinaded beef from a bag soaked in lime juice and delivered by a food truck supplier. This restaurant does NOT do that! The beef and chicken in my combo was really tasty. With a just a hint of lime.
The tortillas (I ordered flour) were good. They were light and fresh. The accompanying platter for making your taco had fresh pico, guacamole, sour cream, rice and the best refried beans I've had in a couple years! The salsa was good too.
The miss is the queso which is as bad as any other restaurant in OKC. It's that off-white dip that makes you fear you are eating lard. I tasted and then basically left it. I should mention that all the Mexican restaurants North of the Red Rive do the same. If you want a queso that tastes like cheese...head for Texas...and it's usually an additional $4-5 bucks down there. But, you get what you pay for so-to-speak.
All in all, Chelino's is an okay place to get that Mexican food fix we all need.
