Below is the apparently controversial posting I made to facebook that apparently needs to be blocked. What crap. History is history and this is no way near controversial. But, who knows what kind of crap goes through a reviewers head about the 1960s?

Do you know why the children who came to America illegally (petitioning to stay, knowing no other home) are referred to as "dreamers"? Most assume it was President Obamas original idea. It actually goes back to one of the Beatles.

Back in the 70s, John Lennon moved to New York on a green card in efforts to help Yoko, whose ex had fled with her daughter. He fell in love with the city who accepted him and gave him space. Elsewhere, he was always mobbed in public and had no peace. Here, he was free to wander Central Park with only an occasional autograph seeker.

The problem was, President Nixon was a bit paranoid about the Peace and anti-Vietnam war movement fearing Lennon would make a huge difference in the politics of the day. As Lennon had a marijuana conviction, he passed the word that Lennon's green card should not be renewed. Lennon was in a tight place as the law was clear.

 Lennon' attorney Leon Wildes, had heard of 'bad guys' who had never been deported and wondered if there was a secret program to defer deportation whenever Immigration chose to do so. (Something along the lines of even letting Nazi's stay here if they had valuable knowledge about super weapons or the Cold War enemy, the Soviet Union.)

Through the freedom of information act, Wildes was able to prove that Immigration had discretion, and a secret program, and with cited precedent, was able to delay Lennon's deportation, and eventually get him permission to stay.

As most dreamers under DACA have no memory of the nation they were born in, they are trying hard to stay in the only country they know. They came in as babies and or children. They just need permission to stay. It was an easy connection (once you know the precedent) for President Obama to call these 800,000 young people "Dreamers".

"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one..." as Lennon's song goes...
